This past weekend, Kia Racing took to the streets of Detroit for rounds six and seven of the Pirelli World Challenge championship.
It was an absolutely fantastic weekend for both Kia Racing and myself! Right from the get go, we set the pace, leading first practice and securing the pole for round six. Round six was a great battle from flag to flag where Jack Baldwin and I ran nose to tail for the majority of the race. We captured Kia Racing’s first win of the 2013 season and second podium finish after a strong round five at COTA a few weeks back.
Qualifying for round seven landed us sixth on the grid with an engine issue preventing us from fighting for the pole. We knew we had our work cut out for us but I felt confident that we would have a strong car that would allow us to race to the front. The race was hampered by yellow’s, which did not allow us much time to make our move, but a late race incident proved to be all we needed to secure our third podium finish of the season.
With a month off, Kia currently sits second in the manufacturers championship and I sit second in the driver’s championship.
Rounds eight and nine will take place at LimeRock Park in early July.
