This past weekend was probably one of the most mentally challenging weekends of my racing career.
We entered the Miller weekend with a healthy lead in both the drivers and manufacturers championship.
We showed great pace, qualifying on the pole for Friday’s race but it wasn’t meant to be… We suffered a broken drive shaft on the start of the Friday round and sat on the sidelines. The Kinetic crew did an amazing job to get the car all fixed up in time for the Saturday morning warm up. We went quickest in warm up and I felt confident that we had a great race car for the final round of the championship.
With only a two point lead in the drivers championship remaining, I knew I had to beat Lawson to win the championship..
Staring P18, I worked hard to get up to as high at 5th place before a mechanical failure would end our day and shot at the drivers championship.
A hard pill to swallow, I think about the season as a whole and it was awesome!! We accomplished our main goal which was for Kia to win the manufacturers championship!
A sincere thanks to Kia Motors America, Kinetic Motorsports, Russell Smith and Nic Jonsson for the opportunity to represent the brand and team!
