Making the most of Mid O

August 13, 2014 Mark38

As summer continues to race on past, here’s the latest on the last few weeks of racing!

August kicked off with rounds 11 & 12 of the Pirelli World Challenge at Mid Ohio. As the season begins to wind down, Mid Ohio has always been an important event for points gathering.. Only two events and four races remain this season.

After a strong Toronto Indy race weekend, I was anxious to get back to work in hopes of another victory. The weekend started off strong and the #38 Kia Optima Turbo showed good consistent pace. I qualified a disappointing 7th after getting held up in some traffic on my quick lap. Race 1 started off dry but quickly turned wet which made for some opportunities to move forward. I ended race 1 in fourth position and collected some good points.

For race 2, I would line up third on the grid thanks to a strong lap in race 1. Weather would not play a factor in race 2 but stalled GT cars in the inside lane certainly made for an interesting first corner. Ultimately, I would lose out on the deal and I found myself back in P7 with lots of work to do in order to get back up towards the front. A late caution set the stage for some good aggressive racing and I made the most of it to move up to P3 on the closing lap.. A strong points scoring weekend!

The next two rounds of the PWC will take place August 23/24 at Sonoma Raceway. This track has traditionally been a bit of a challenge for us but i’m confident that with all the improvements made to the car in the off season we will be strong.
