Season in High Gear

June 11, 2014 Mark38

The season is now officially in high gear and as such the updates are a bit slow (sorry) but the activity is high with plenty to report!

Three weeks back, Mantella Autosport took to the bull ring aka Limerock Park in hopes of a strong result and managed a strong top ten finish. This was the first top ten for the team and the best result of the season so far. For more on Limerock check out the link below for a full run down.

Mantella Autosport Limerock Report

Following Limerock, Kinetic Motorsports made a quick trip to Detroit to visit Kia’s R&D facility located just outside of the city. I spoke with many enthusiastic Kia/Hyundai techs and brain trusts. It was a great opportunity to chat about the World Challenge season and the more technical aspects of the Kia Optima race cars. It just so happened that an eight page spread on the Kia Optima race program had just been released by Racer Magazine. Very cool and well written piece with some excellent shots from the assembly line in WestPoint GA.

Kia Racing – Racer Magazine

A few days after our visit to Kia’s R&D facility, Kinetic Motorsports was back in Detroit and set up on Belle Isle for the Detroit GP weekend! Qualifying did not go according to plan and as a result Nic and I both started much further back than we had hoped to be. Detroit is a tricky circuit and we knew passing would be tough. Never the less, we both had a strong race on Saturday.. Nic finished a strong third place and I finished fourth. On Sunday, I would start a little closer to the front and snag a top three finish to help Kia retain its manufacturers points lead.

Kia Racing – Detroit Recap

This past weekend Mantella Autosport headed south to Kansas for round five of the CTSCC. Anthony had a great weekend, showing speed and consistency as he drove the car to as high as second place early in the race. Smart team strategy looked to put us in a strong position for the second half of the race but unfortunately, a mechanical failure ended our day early. It has certainly been a tough start to the season but we are improving every weekend and have shown some great pace. The next round of the CTSCC will take place in Watkins Glen in a few short weeks.
